As the demand for electrification continues to grow globally, the automotive, aerospace, and defense markets face unprecedented challenges. New technologies are placing greater demands on motors in terms of operating speeds, temperatures, and efficiencies. For example, very large turbine generators are needed to power multiple-wing propellers used on hybrid and electric aircraft. The presentation will examine the importance of optimizing induction and permanent magnet motor design for manufacturing. Also discussed are manufacturability pros and cons within the stator and rotor, as well as all the materials and processes that go into making a highly efficient, quality motor, adding in more background on die-cast induction machines and novel PM rotor topologies.
