Design & Engineering
Arnold engineers are often the first point of contact for customers with a technical concept through projects already in development. Regardless of your starting point, Arnold engineers assist in designing new systems or optimizing a design that includes sophisticated magnetic components and precision magnetic assemblies.
Arnold engineering design and prototyping services can help you achieve optimum results for your requirements. Our engineering services fall into three areas of excellence:
- Analysis & Optimization
- Magnetic Field Mapping
- Testing & Validation
While we perform many discrete engineering tasks for customers, our technical team often works as an extension of your engineering team throughout the life cycle of your program.
DESIGN ASSISTANCE
Engineers at each of our manufacturing locations can assist you with your needs, such as:
- Magnetic modeling: 2D, Radially symmetric, 3D, Temperature dependence
- Design relationships to your Hall sensor and application specifications
- Complete analysis includes studying the effects of the operate and release point of the Hall sensors compared to the magnetic output waveform:
- Quadrature encoders
- Switches and latches
- Ratiometric / Linear Halls
- Pulse counters
- Complex holding force calculations
- Insert and overmolding designs
- Manufacturability analysis
- Measurement capability to verify design
ANALYSIS & OPTIMIZATION
All engineering design services begin with a thorough analysis of your concept, prototype, or system. Arnold engineers employ a range of 2D and 3D Finite Element Analysis (FEA) modeling to begin the analysis. Our FEA capabilities include analysis for motors, magnetic components and assemblies, and structural performance. Analysis includes both performance and manufacturability optimization. Our engineers will assist in applying Arnold advanced materials to improve your design’s performance, reduce the system size, and often at a lower unit cost. Arnold’s FEA capabilities include:
- Motor 2D and 3D
- Magnetic 2D & 3D
- Structural
PROTOTYPING
Arnold engineering’s culture of curiosity and a problem-solving mindset ensure your prototype will perform to your specifications. It’s not uncommon for our engineers to suggest design changes to achieve a higher level of performance, in a smaller package, and/or to aid in its manufacturability. Many design concepts require simple to fully integrated working prototypes. Arnold Magnetic Technologies has in-house prototyping capabilities to build fully integrated prototypes that can include metals, magnetics, and coatings, as well as the ability to machine fixtures.
MAGNETIC FIELD MAPPING
Arnold engineers employ some of the industry’s most advanced magnetic field scanning and mapping equipment. Much of our equipment is designed in-house to scan and map Linear, Planar and Rotary magnetic fields. Data and graphic output can be provided for objects up to approximately 8 feet (2.4 m) in length by 3 feet (0.9 m) in diameter.
TESTING & VALIDATION
While our engineers frequently work with customers at the earliest design concept stages, we also support customers who are looking for an independent third-party testing and validation of their magnetic system. Our testing and validation services will provide you with evidentiary data to support the performance and feasibility of your system.
